Assignments are a key data point your program tracks in Beeline Enterprise. Assignments help you track who is working on what, where, when, and for whom. They’re usually classified by job class, job title, rate card category, supplier, and more.
Assignments in Enterprise can be for contingent staffing, services procurement or resource tracking. Sometimes they’re amended to adjust for changes in scope. Or even reclassified to account for organizational changes or job class realignments.
How It helps
Assignment Reclassification allows you to:
- Maintain accurate workforce analytics by aligning assignments with updated job taxonomy.
- Avoid unnecessary requests by updating existing assignments instead of creating new ones.
- Ensure flexibility with options to retain or update rates when job titles or categories change.
- Keep systems synchronized through support for standard worker download integrations.

Understanding when to amend or reclassify assignments
As your business adjusts to market demands and project needs, you may need to alter assignments. As a program office user, you have options for managing job changes. You can amend or reclassify assignments.
Which action you choose depends on what you want to change.
| Action | Use case |
|---|---|
| Amending | Change the existing terms or conditions of an assignment without altering its fundamental classification. Alter things like approvers, rates, dates, the scope of work, or specific responsibilities. |
| Reclassifying | Change the assignment category, job title, job description, or pay rate. Realign an assignment to a different job class in the same industry. Accurately capture the nature of the work or the qualifications required. |
Learn about reclassifying
Reclassifying helps you streamline updating assignments to reflect role or job taxonomy changes. Plus, it eliminates the need to unnecessarily create new requests and ensures accurate workforce analytics.
You can reclassify assignments to different job title or job class only within the same industry. If you want to reclassify an assignment to a different industry, you must create a new assignment.
Here’s what you can change when you reclassify an assignment: assignment category, job title and rates.
Understanding rates
When you reclassify an assignment, rates on the assignment are automatically updated to the rate card matching the new category or the new job title. But the Rate Card associated with the original category or job title isn’t affected.
In addition, the Retain Rate option gives you flexibility: you can change the category or job title without automatically updating the rates, preserving the current assignment rates tied to the original category or job title. That option doesn’t impact the Rate Card associated with the category or job title.
When you reclassify an assignment and change rates, the rate modifications are processed the same way as when you amend an individual assignment.
Your Enterprise VMS offers numerous features and options for managing and calculating rates to accommodate paying your workforce wherever they are. Currently, you cannot retain rates on assignments procured through Direct Sourcing nor when you’re reclassifying assignments with the following rate configurations. All other rate configurations are supported.
Rate configurations where you cannot retain rates: Matrix
| Configuration | trueRate 2.0 | Pay Rate | Rate Card Direction | Target Rate | Markup Calculation Type | Cost Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
TrueRatesV2Off + PayRateEnabled + RCD_None + MCT_None + CostRateNone | OFF | ON | NONE | N/A | NONE | NONE |
TrueRatesV2Off + PayRateEnabled + B2P + TargetEditableMarkupCalculated + CostRateNone | OFF | ON | Bill to Pay | EDITABLE | CALCUALTED | NONE |
TrueRatesV2On + PayRateEnabled + P2B + MCT_None + CostRateNone | ON | ON | Pay to Bill | N/A | NONE | NONE |
TrueRatesV2On + PayRateEnabled + P2B + TargetEditableAndCalculated + CostRateNone | ON | ON | Pay to Bill | EDITABLE and CALCUALTED | N/A | NONE |
TrueRatesV2Off + PayRateEnabled + B2P + TargetEditableAndCalculated + CostRateNone | OFF | ON | Bill to Pay | EDITABLE and CALCUALTED | N/A | NONE |
TrueRatesV2On + PayRateDisabled + RCD_None + MCT_None + CostRateNone | ON | OFF | NONE | N/A | NONE | NONE |
TrueRatesV2Off + PayRateEnabled + P2B + TargetEditableAndCalculated + CostRateNone | OFF | ON | Pay to Bill | Editable and calculated | N/A | NONE |
Configuration considerations
When you reclassify an assignment, your standard business processes and workflow still apply. In addition, you can reclassify an assignment and impact the pay rate when your program is using the trueRATE 2.0 and/or Beeline Rate, Time, & Expense (RTE) features.
Worker download integrations
Support for assignment reclassifications in standard Worker Download (WDL) integrations depends on your configuration. To include these changes in your WDL output, submit a Service Request so your setup can be reviewed and tested. Standard WDL integrations (API, Connector, and flat file) may support full or delta updates based on configuration.
