Learn how Industry settings shape request behavior, rates, validations, and tenure policies

An Industry is the top level of the Procurement section and serves as the primary container for procurement configuration. Industry settings determine how procurement processes behave within that Industry and provide the foundation for request creation, rate management, supplier participation, and tenure policies. Changes to Industry-level settings are informational for Program Office users and must be coordinated through a Client Services Representative.

The procurement records configured within an Industry work together to support workforce requests, suppliers, rates, and request templates.

Why it matters

  • Industry settings define key procurement behaviors.
  • Request creation, validations, and tenure rules are controlled at the Industry level.
  • Procurement records such as Request Types, Job Classes, Rate Cards, Suppliers, and Request Templates are organized within an Industry.

Who it's for

  • Program Office users
  • System Admins

How it helps

  • Understand which settings are managed at the Industry level.
  • Identify when Client Services involvement is required.
  • Understand how Industry settings affect downstream procurement configuration.
  • Prepare for Request Type, rate, supplier, and template administration.

Information in this article reflects a standard Enterprise configuration. Your Enterprise platform is based on your organization’s configuration. Settings and/or data visibility rules may vary slightly from what is described.

How it works

Industry settings act as shared controls for procurement configuration within a specific Industry. While Program Office users manage many procurement records, certain Industry-level settings are maintained through a Client Services Representative.

Industry-level settings

Setting area Purpose
Request Creation Mode Controls how requests are created within the Industry.
Markup Calculation Type Controls markup calculations for Pay-to-Bill and Bill-to-Pay models.
Calendar Configuration Supports alternative calendars and holiday schedules.
Assignment Overlap Warnings Controls warnings for overlapping assignments.
Validation Settings Controls procurement validation behavior.
Tenure Policy and Enforcement Defines tenure periods, break-in-service requirements, and tenure validations.

Industry records

Industries contain the procurement records used throughout workforce procurement, including:

  • Request Types
  • Job Classes
  • Job Titles
  • Rate Card Classes
  • Rate Card Categories
  • Rate Cards
  • Supplier associations
  • Request Templates

Important behavior

  • Industry settings are specific to each Industry. Changes made in one Industry do not automatically apply to others.
  • Request Types are managed within an Industry and control request behavior for that Industry.
  • Tenure settings, including tenure periods, break-in-service rules, and validations, are configured at the Industry level.
  • Certain Industry settings can only be modified with assistance from a Client Services Representative.

Additional considerations

  • Review Industry-specific configuration before creating procurement records.
  • Consider how request creation, validation, and tenure requirements affect procurement processes.
  • Verify organizational standards before requesting changes to Industry-level settings.
  • Document any Industry-specific configuration decisions for future administrators.

Availability and setup

Industry configuration is available through Admin > Procurement. Some Industry-level settings require assistance from a Client Services Representative to modify.

Before you begin

Before reviewing or modifying procurement configuration:

  • Identify the Industry you are working in.
  • Understand any Industry-specific procurement requirements.
  • Determine whether the change affects request creation, rates, suppliers, or tenure enforcement.
  • Confirm whether the setting can be managed by Program Office users or requires Client Services involvement.
